Rhode Island Atheists envisions a state in which public policy is made using the best evidence we have rather than religious dogma and where religious beliefs are no longer seen as an excuse for bigotry or cause to receive special treatment from the government. We fight for our state's legacy as the birthplace of religious freedom & separation of church/state, as founded by Roger Williams.
We strive to create an environment where atheists, humanists, agnostics and other non-believers are accepted as members of our state’s communities and where casual bigotry against our community is seen as abhorrent and unacceptable. We promote understanding of atheists through education, outreach, and community building and work to end the stigma associated with being an atheist in Rhode Island.
By working with coalition partners within our state and across local communities where we can find common ground, Rhode Island Atheists fights to improve public policy for all Rhode Island residents, protect real religious freedom by defending the wall of separation between religion and government, and promote the acceptance and understanding of atheists.
Rhode Island Atheists is a multi-faceted non-profit organization and our goals span the purview of our mission statement. Our primary function is to provide an atmosphere for atheists, agnostics, humanists & nonbelievers to connect and express themselves. Our goals as an organization center around separation of church/state & religious freedom in Rhode Island.
Our general meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of the Month at 6:30PM. We are always looking for members who want to volunteer their time to the cause and thus have many projects available between meetings. Contact us today to learn more about how you can stay connected & involved!
We're also a proud affiliate of American Atheists and winners of the 2024 Affiliate of the Year Award!
